Are you too addicted to the Sense of crisp?
The world’s most legal and affordable drug
The most weird thing about this addictive drug is that so many people are having this right now, maybe someone’s buying in front of you and this drug is quite legal and we generally like to have it anytime at anywhere.
It’s so cheap that we don’t even think that Why potato chips are just too addictive?
Yeah, Potato Chips I know you’re thinking that what’s this Human even talking about sense of crisp and Potato Chips ?
It’s weird for me too, once I thought about that it’s just so difficult to control and We just eat luggage of chips and boxes of pringles like that drunk man who can’t control himself after having an excessive amount of Beer.
But….. There is a person who actually researched about crunchiness of Potato Chips, Charles Spence Professor of experimental Psychology at Oxford college where he runs the Crossmodal studies Laboratory. This lab is location wherein he studies about all sense and for one among his famous research is Sound and crisp of Potato Chips and for which he and his co-writer awarded with Ig Nobel Prize for nutrients in 2008.
For this research he brought some participants into a booth, where he had them wear headphones and take bites of Potato Chips into a microphone. He controlled the sound volume and frequency of crunch and each participant heard through the headphones and found when hearing louder pitch crunchiness of chips, participants interpret chips to be fresher and crispier.
Yeah the research sounds weird But…
If you ever watch some advertisement of fruits or chips their main motive is to give that their product is fresh and they always use cabbage and chips for high pitch crunch sound to make it seems like it’s fresh and tasty. I imply not cabbage but Potato Chips in term of taste and as a Human our mind also believes that it’s fresh and tasty.
Cheetos yup, I am sure that some of you’re thinking of it’s crunchiness
the most tasty and mouth watering food that our brain associates the crunching sound with freshness and we eat almost 3–4 bags of Cheetos without even think about it and even our mind doesn’t count the calories.
Some Potato chips company have special designed Labs where hundreds of technicians and Psychologist research about how chips crunch sounds like when we eat it and also the smell of chips when we open chips packet and In this Labs they have some special device which replicate sound of crunch and helps in used to find perfect breaking point of bite.
The perfect breaking point is 4 pounds per Square Inch.
At closing I simply wanna tell all people that potato chips is one of the major cause of weight gain and I think this is the one and only food which control our brain the most just because it’s crisp sound directly make us think about salt that triggers the release of dopamine, a chemical messenger that controls your mind’s pride middle.
That’s why our ancestor says always listen to your Gut feeling unless someone else trigger your brain and will start giving you drug.
